'African Showgirl'

African Showgirl

Cerise to magenta (H6–H13), shading to white 7mm long flowers in whorls of 4 with grass-green foliage. This Cape heath has been marketed in New Zealand and most recently in Japan under the name "Erica × willmorei" (or one of its many variants, including Erica “wilmoreana”, “Wilmore’s heath”) but that is not a correct name for any extant Cape heath nor for any of their hybrid progeny.

'Crystal Palace'

2cm long, tubular white translucent flowers with mid-green foliage. Erect habit reaching 0.7m in 2 years. Tender and needs a frost-free environment. Identified as a natural hybrid of E. patersonii and E. perspicua. Japanese origin.

'Ghislaine'

Ghislaine

A spectacular Cape hybrid with masses of 9mm long flowers deep magenta at the base with white lobes, Aug-Jan with mid-green foliage. Even the earliest flowers do not fade until late in the year. Possibly raised by Milton Hutchins by 1980. Rescued from a nursery in Iver Heath, Berkshire, England in 1994. Introduced by David and Anne Small (Denbeigh Heathers, Ipswich, England) in 1997, it is named after their eldest grand-daughter. Ht. 61-75cm. Spd. 31-45cm.

'Helène'

25mm long tubular flowers, May-Jul, which open a yellow/orange deepening to a pinkish orange as they age. Dark green foliage with a strong, vigorous upright growth. The origins of this clone are obscure. A plant bearing this name was first introduced by J. B. R. Gentilhomme {France) in 1879 being a hybrid between E. willmoreana (itself a hybrid) and E. cylindrica. It is possible that the plant bearing this name now is not the original. Tender and needs a frost-free environment. Ht. 46-60cm. Spd. 46-60cm.

'May Queen Ina'

Very floriferous 20mm long pink tubular flowers, May-Jul, with dark green foliage and a strong, vigorous upright growth. The origins of this clone are obscure but is similar to E. ventricosa. Tender and needs a frost-free environment. Ht. 46-60cm. Spd. 46-60cm.

'Winter Fire'

Very floriferous fire-red tubular flowers, Feb-Apr, with mid-green foliage with yellow tips in spring. Compact but vigorous broad habit. It was a seeding grown from  E. oatesii in South Australia but clearly is a hybrid. Tender and needs a frost-free environment. Ht. 90cm. Spd. 60cm.
