This heath, reaching 100cm, is now believed to be extinct in the wild in South Africa. It produces a very unusual and attractive arrangement of mauve tubular flowers, 15mm long tightly packed in "ruffs" at intervals along an otherwise almost bare stem. The flowers can be produced at any time of year but the main display is usually, August and October in the northern hemisphere. Like most Cape heaths it is badly damaged by -7°C (20°F) air frosts. Ht. 75-100cm. Spd. 46-60cm.
